![]() Dr. Arthur Western is Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Dean of the Faculty, at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana. During his fifteen years with Rose-Hulman, he has served as Associate Dean of the Faculty, and for seven years, as head of the Department of Physics and Applied Optics. His areas of teaching and research expertise include solid state physics, applied optics and non-destructive testing. In 1995, Dr. Western received the Rose-Hulman Board of Trustees' Outstanding Scholar Award, honoring his excellence in teaching as well as his contributions to improving science education. He is co-author of the popular textbook, University Physics: Models and Applications, and has served as a reviewer for American Journal of Physics and Physics Teacher Magazine. Dr. Western earned the Bachelor's Degree in Physics from Rollins College, and the Master's and Ph.D. in Physics from Montana State University.
